George Allen Morgan’s Private Indices to and Notes on the Works of Eugen Rosenstock-Huessy
Given the vast scope of Eugen Rosenstock-Huessy’s writings and lectures, comprehensive indices have been the element most sorely lacking for people interested in his work. Argo Books now offers a first step toward filling that gap. George Allen Morgan, the author of Speech and Society, has graciously allowed Argo to offer the indices and notes he prepared while writing that book.
As noted in the description of Speech and Society, Dr. Morgan read, at least once, each of Rosenstock-Huessy’s 45 books and more than 700 articles and other unpublished material. Concurrently he prepared an index and a set of notes to use as a reference while writing the book. In addition to this subject guide, Dr. Morgan prepared an index to Rosenstock-Huessy’s lectures, which were being transcribed as Speech and Society went to press. The result has been two indices, one to the published and unpublished books, the other to the Eugen Rosenstock-Huessy lectures. Argo is offering them, together with George Morgan’s notes, in photocopied form, at cost.
It is important to stress that they are the private work of a scholar, primarily designed to assist him while writing a book. As a result, they have the character of all private notes. They are tailored to the task for which they were produced. This applies to the system on which they are based and the references they offer.
Argo hopes that the set of indices and the notes will help guide readers through the thousands of pages Rosenstock-Huessy has left.
