Richard Feringer's Notes on Rosenstock-Huessy

Richard Feringer, an engineer and now a retired professor of education (with an emphasis on community development), began writing notes on various works by Eugen Rosenstock-Huessy as a means of forcing himself to clarify his understanding of what he was reading. He first learned about Rosenstock-Huessy when he was studying for his D.Ed. at UCLA, following a career that had begun in 1946 in maritime engineering as a designer, consultant, and instrument maker.

Feringer was hired by Western Washington University (Bellingham) in 1963, principally to found a department of continuing studies, whose purpose was to apply university resources to community problems. He shifted from that administrative role to full-time teaching in 1973, and founded a graduate program preparing students to work in community development. He continued in that post until 1991, when he became Professor Emeritus at WWU.
